Deregulation In The Wellsboro Electric Company Utility Area
Wellsboro Electric Company is the monopoly utility area that has now become deregulated. You now have a choice for who your electricity company in PA will be. Wellsboro will still deliver your electricity over the poles and wires but you can pick a cheaper electricity price from a different company.
Fashioned So That You Save Money When Switching
The Pennsylvania government has set it up so that you will save a substantial amount of money on the cost of your energy service by switching away from the monopoly electric utility. Over time the deregulation process will push electricity rates down even further. You must still content with energy fuel costs as that is what the power plants use to produce your electricity but because of deregulation profit margins are thinner and savings go to the customer.
No Deposit Choices
At this time there are no options available for credit risk customers needing to avoid large deposit amounts. In Texas there are a few no deposit electric companies offering prepaid and pay as you go electric service but there is nothing like this in Pennsylvania.

What I recommend is try signing up with a few different electricity companies if you are needing a residential electric rate and see which one will accept you with no deposit. For commercial and industrial businesses you will be give rates for several different fixed rate terms. You pick the best price and they will then run a credit check. A commercial energy provider in the PPL electric utility area may ask you for up to 3 months average electricity bills for a deposit of your credit is bad or not established. If you are a residential energy consumer there is not a whole lot of choice right now but there is still some choice. By picking a competitive electricity supplier in PA you will automatically be saving a substantial amount off of what you are currently paying the monopoly electricity supplier in your area. Pike County Light and Power will still deliver your electricity over the poles and wires but a retail electricity company like Direct Energy will sell you your power. Texas has been deregulated since 2002 with great results. Now PA residents and commercial businesses can immediately save money on their energy by picking a competitive electric company from the list below. At this time there are no prepaid electricity companies or no deposit guaranteed electric suppliers in the Pike County Light and Power utility area. My best suggestion is to try several energy service companies if you would like to avoid a deposit but have bad credit.

There are many residential and commercial business electricity suppliers competing in this region of PA to sell you a cheaper electric rate. You can save a substantial amount now simply by choosing a competitive electricity supplier other than the monopoly provider in your area. In some cases a deposit will be required. There are no prepaid electricity companies in Pennsylvania at this time or no deposit guaranteed companies. All deposit amounts are figured after first checking your credit history. If you have good credit you will be ok but if you have no established credit history you may have to pay as much as $400 for a deposit if you are a residential customer and much more than that if you are a commercial electricity service customer in PA. Met-ED Which Was Formerly GPU Energy is now a competitive utility area for electricity competition in Pennsylvania. You can immediately start saving a substantial amount on your electric rate by switching to a more competitive energy service company. There are several electric companies offering residential and commercial electric service in the Met-Ed utility area. In most cases if you have bad or no credit history you will be asked for a deposit. At this time there are no official no deposit electricity companies in the Met-Ed PA area. This will likely change but our best recommendation at this time is to try a few electric providers until you get a good one.
