Choosing a prepaid electricity company is not an ideal situation as it means you were likely denied by several electric companies already and/or asked for large deposits.

Once one electricity supplier denies you based on your credit score usually all of them will or will accept you provided you pay a huge deposit amount you may not see again for a year.

A prepaid electricity company comes in real handy in these situations. In the past the only choice was to go with a prepay electric company that estimated your electric usage from the previous tenant or size of your home.

We now have prepaid electric companies that use more advanced technology because of the recent roll out of smart electric meters in many deregulated electric utility areas.

The real time data from these meters are immediately deducted from a prepay electricity card. By doing the charging in this way you don’t end up paying way more or way less than you are using.

Rather than the prepay electric provider truing up charges later they never have to do this as a smart meter doesn’t lie and allows for accurate deductions in payment to be handled at the meter.

If you do not have a smart meter your only prepaid electricity choice is to go with an electric company that estimates electric usage.

In this situation you may pay more than what you use but you might end up paying less. To get started with a prepaid electricity company that does not ask for a deposit you will have to come up with about $175 on average.

The good thing is that the $175 is applied to your first months electric bill and is nothing like a deposit you will not see again for a year.

You continue to prepay for your electricity each month in this way and your electric company will let you know what to send them.

If this sounds interesting to you please begin by using our zip code tool at the top. Once you click on “Compare” you will see a tab called “No Deposit”

Click on that tab to see if you qualify for no deposit prepaid electric companies that use smart meter technology.

The system will be able to determine if your address uses a smart meter. If it does not you may not qualify for the prepaid electric companies listed in the chart but you still have one other option.

Try the prepaid electric company below that estimates your usage without the need of a smart meter. If you have questions about any of these options please call us at 1-800-971-4020.

Once you have entered your zip code you will see multiple electricity companies in your area including Bounce Energy.

We recommend comparing fixed electric rate offers if you want to have price predictability over the course of 6 months or longer.

If you just want a temporary short term electric rate than check out the variable electric rate offers from Bounce Energy and a few other providers.

If you want a no deposit electric company or one that has no credit check we also have a no deposit tab where you can see current electric plan offers there that do not require a deposit.

Bounce Energy is a solid electric company in Texas and plans to expand into a few other states. Once you have picked out the Bounce electric rate that suits you best you may proceed to order online.

When signing up with a traditional electric company many will ask you for a credit card to take a deposit. Of course like many you will want to avoid paying a large deposit and if you can help it will want to keep that credit card number to yourself.

Sometimes however, your credit is so bad that a deposit is the only choice unless you choose to go with a prepaid electricity company. In the same way some people cannot get a traditional credit card but must sign up for a prepaid credit card where they put money on the card to attempt to build their credit back up.
With a sub-prime credit card they are not always prepaid offers but many are. I have read several places that sub-prime credit card companies are ripping people off but I would disagree.

I have needed a prepaid credit card in order to reestablish credit and it helped me do so. Did I pay a fortune in fees and charges each month based on interest calculations? Yes I did but I looked at the fees I paid each month as a service fee for having a company willing to assist in building my credit back up to something I can use.

Prepaid credit cards and sub-prime credit cards have gotten a bad name but in reality there are people out there that feel like they have never been burned or scammed in the process of working with a sub-prime credit card company as they got what they were needing. I would fall in to this category of people genuinely helped and thankful for sub-prime credit card companies.

If I had not used a prepaid credit card company I would never have never qualified for the home mortgage I have now and be living in a big spacious home that me and my family have enjoyed for several years now.

Rather then spending this much upfront money more people are starting to choose a short cut to get electric service on right away and avoid that hefty PA energy deposit.

Considering most of us have to put up $500 – $1000 as a deposit for an apartment or home to rent it is hard to come up with the additional money to get lights turned on.

Rather then spending this money tied up for a year or more to pay a large deposit there is the option of prepaid electricity service.

A PA prepaid electric company operates in one of two ways. They either estimate your PA electric usage based on how the prior tenant used their electricity or they put a device on those who have a smart electric meter that sends live data as you use electricity.

For those who have a smart electric meter in Pennsylvania you have the better scenario as many prepaid electric companies that charge you on estimated usage end up leaving the state once they are asked to true up the charges you may have over paid.

You see if you do not have a Pennsylvania smart electric meter a prepaid electricity company is supposed to pay you back for any overages in estimated electricity usage.

Prior to Pennsylvania letting the rate caps expire no one knew how prepaid electric companies operate but in Texas there have been some warning signs.

Several prepaid electricity companies signed up several thousand electric service customers and were charging them much more than these customers actually used in electricity.

Rather than truing up the charges the no deposit electricity companies shutdown and left the state with all that money.

Smart meter technology prevents this type of scam from happening as Pennsylvania prepaid electric companies that use smart meters only charge you for actual usage as it appears on the smart meter.

The smart meter card deducts the exact amount you owe as you use the electricity throughout the day.

So for those of us that want to avoid paying a deposit the prepaid electricity choice is the best option and smart meters make that available.

In Baltimore Maryland the monopoly electricity utility company is known as Baltimore gas and electric company. Fortunately because the state is deregulated you have a choice in who you choose as your electricity company.

One of the biggest frustrations with finding an alternate electric company is having to put down a large deposit to have electrci service turned on in your name.

The people who get the biggest shock when it comes to electricity deposits in Maryland are young people, college students, and people just starting out on their own.

You may have never had a utility service started in your name or for that matter a credit card. Your credit score may be unestablished and because of this you fall in the credit risk category with most electric utility companies in Maryland.

Yes there are such things as no deposit electricity companies in Baltimore but these are prepaid electric providers and often they come with strings attached.

What you generally see in a prepaid electric companies ads is a hook like, “start service for only $99 down”.

Keep in mind that this is not a deposit they are saying you can actually get electric service turned on in your name for $99 and it will be on and will be applied to your first months electricity bill.

What these prepaid electricity companies in Baltimore Maryland fail to mention is that there may be more charges in just a couple short weeks.

Since prepaid service does not require a deposit there is usually a high mark up. There are consumer protection laws in place preventing electricity companies from turning your service off prematurely so these prepaid electric companies have to charge you more.

The high margins on these prepaid electricity rates in Baltimore are not just to protect the electric company because they do make a fortune on you as well.

Just like those rent own furniture stores are in some of the nicest buildings in town the prepaid electricity companies are making huge profit margins on low income families.

I am not saying every prepaid electricity company is a scam but just be aware that sometimes it is worth going with a traditional electric company in Maryland that may have a small deposit but offer a competitive electricity price.

2 weeks later you are asked by this prepaid electric company for an additional $200 or so to keep electric service turned on at your McKinney TX apartment or they wil shut you off. Now that $99 start up fee doesn’t seem like all it promised to be.

It makes since now why they downplayed the per kWh rate and that the $99 was just a “start up fee”. So hopefully you have read this warning before signing up with the old school prepaid electric companies out there.

Thing are different now. Oncor Electric Delivery and Center Point Energy as well as many other poles and wires companies are installing smart meters at every address. These smart electric meters send back electric usage in real time.

This allows prepaid electric companies to know immediately how much electricity you are using and to charge you accurately as well as allow you to prepay for the exact electric usage you use and no more.

For those with bad credit in McKinney that are looking to pay no deposit for their McKinney Texas electricity service this smart meter prepaid electric service is the way to go.

First Choice Power and a few others are implementing a prepaid electric service that uses the smart meters being installed by these TDSP companies.

And, according to many home heating and cooling specialists, they could be costing you money – big time – because an air conditioner that is too large for a home wastes valuable energy.

Here’s why it pays to spend some time to select the right size AC unit for your home.

Larger AC units short-cycles. What this means is, they run for shorter periods of time than they should, which means they don’t dehumidify as well as they ought to. Because the very function of an air conditioner is to dehumidify (ie, suck moisture out of the air to make an environment cooler), larger AC units can waste a lot of energy.

When you couple this with the fact that they cost more to install, the financial hit you take by choosing a unit that’s too large for your home can really add up.

Solution: Home heating and cooling experts recommend that you take the time to select the right size unit for your home overall. And, err on the side of undersizing your unit than oversizing it.

Just like you should take the time to select the right size AC unit for your home to save on your Pennsylvania electric bill, you should also take the time to choose the right electric plan.

Is Your Pennsylvania Electric Service Plan Too Big for Your Budget?
Traditional Pennsylvania electric companies offer no deposit electricity plans that are not only economical, but easy to sign up for. If you’re currently using a prepaid electric plan, you are – without a doubt – paying more for electricity than you need to.

Call your PA energy supplier and ask about no deposit electric service plans. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the array of options they offer and how easy they are to sign up for.

Garages are a godsend for residents who brave extremely cold temperatures in the winter. Like most everything else in home construction, garage doors come in environmentally friendly, ie “green” options. Following is one – and installing it could even qualify you for a $1,500 tax credit under the government’s energy efficiency program for homeowners.
Composite Garage Doors: Why They’re an Ideal Green Option

Garage doors made of recycled wood and heavy-duty resins are known as composite garage doors. These are an ideal choice for homeowners who want a door that mirrors the innate beauty of real wood, but without the high price tag.

Composite garage doors are also lighter in weight than authentic wood doors. And because they’re constructed using a durable wood fiber composite, you won’t have to worry about them rusting, denting or delaminating – which is very common in areas where you get a lot of moisture (eg, snow).

These doors tend to be much less expensive than other types of garage doors as well; eg, those made from solid steel and/or wood.
Reap Energy Tax Credit Savings

For energy-efficient home improvements made this year, homeowners qualify for federal energy tax credits of up to $1,500. Composite garage doors may fall under this energy-efficient label, making this the ideal time to move ahead if you’re in the market for this home improvement.

Making Home Improvements Is Not the Only Way to Save On Your Pennsylvania Electric Bill

While making energy-efficient home improvements is smart, it’s not the only way to save on your monthly electric bill.

A faster, easier way is to simply make sure that you select the right energy plan. For example, by choosing a no-deposit or low-deposit electric service plan, you can save as much as a quarter, a third or even up to half on your monthly bill when compared to using prepaid electric plans.

Why? Because these “consumer-unfriendly” plans routinely cost more than conventional electric plans – where you get the lowest possible rate. Even if you have to pay a deposit to open a regular electricity account, the savings are worth it because again, you get the lowest possible rates.
